Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of primarily lighthearted anecdotes, bawdy stories, and original verses, as well as copies of letters to acquaintances on primarily political subjects, including many references to the American Revolution. The volume contains a list of Vernon's quotations for different occasions, including to a man lately married and to a person in affliction; anecdotes titled On the means by which a man acquired a large fortune and Reasons why compound fractures should be treated as much as possible; and a poem titled On the death of my dear wife. Many of the other anecdotes concern women's appearance and behavior. Among the copies of his own letters which Vernon has entered in the book are letters to Sir William, Viscount Howe and Colonel D'Tournon concerning the American Revolution; Robert Jocelyn, 1st earl of Roden containing a long account of the culture and habits of American Indians; Sir Robert Liston reporting on the government of India; and George Augustus Eliott, 1st baron Heathfield concerning the attacks made on Gibraltar during the siege of 1779-1782.
